First off, I get asked all the time how to make Overnight Oats, so below is my own personal process (but I think there are various methods!)
Ingredients for Overnight Oatmeal base:
- 1/2 cup uncooked rolled oats
- 3/4 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk (the amount of liquid you add will determine the consistency so it depends on if you like it liquid-y or thick, I think this is right in the middle)
- 1 tbsp Chia Seeds (optional but helps with thickness)
Directions:
- Combine above ingredients in a bowl or tupperware
- Leave in the refrigerator overnight
- In the morning, microwave for 1-2 minutes
- Add in toppings!
My personal favorite toppings to add are:
- Vanilla Protein Powder
- Peanut Butter
- Blueberries
- Bananas
- Cinnamon
Like many in the blog world, I believe oatmeal to be the best and most delicious breakfast ever. ย Below you’ll find some of my favorite bowls of oats ๐

This is total food porn!!! ๐ Is that a calcium chew in your chocolate crunch oats??? You should add peppermint extract to the mint oats to bring the flavor up a notch. ๐

Do you use just plain ‘ol store oats? Or, something else? They look creamier than my Quaker.
August 11, 2011 at 5:26 pm
I use Quaker Rolled Oats, not instant. I usually make it with almond milk usually and whip bananas into the oats as they are cooking. The bananas kind of melt and emulsify and make the oats have a more thick texture.

Do you have any recipes to share? i.e., amounts of each ingredient and if they were overnight or on the stove
It looks like your ‘overnight’ oatmeal seems pretty easy…how do you make them?
January 6, 2012 at 7:23 pm
I just put in 1/2 cup uncooked rolled oats with about 3/4 cup of almond milk (amount depends on if you like your oats thicker or more liquid-y) in a tupperware and refrigerate overnight. In the morning I microwave for 1-2 minutes (but it isn’t necessary, its just too cold in winter to eat cold oatmeal!) and then add in toppings, which lately has included 1 scoop vanilla protein powder, blueberries, and/or banana slices.

You should try savory oatmeal! Try cooking some oats in some chicken stock, adding sauted mushroom, onions, spinach & Garlic and add a protein. I like seafood or chunked up chicken breast. Salt and pepper to taste. I take them to work for lunch all the time!! They’re super filling as wonderfully delicious. They remind me of rissoto… I suppose you could call them ris-oat-o!

For some reason I am SO nervous to make overnight oats. Haha I think I am going to mess it up or something. It looks delicious though and I could def make it, since I am college dorm living! Ha I have the 100 calorie packets of oats, and chobani.. I saw people make theres like that.. cold? What are your suggestions for me? I have pb, granola, bananas, etc. as well.
THANKS! ๐

Yeah you can easily mix wit with greek yogurt and let it sit overnight. you can eat it cold! I prefer it cold in the warmer months but for now I like to heat mine up…however I probably wouldn’t recommend heating yogurt. If you want to heat it up, I would say mix it with water or some kind of milk instead of yogurt.
